âVin, can I ask you something?â We were seated at a far back table with Digger when
Skid approached me. The kid was Seventeen, his mother was one of the dancers. When sheâd told me what had happened to him, I decided to get him out of Juvi and help the kid out. Ever since then, he been stuck to me like glue. He was a bit young to be a Prospect. But Reaper made an exception, in order to offer him protection. He was one of us now, and he was enthusiastic about being a part of something. Even the guys thought it was...cute.
âWhat is it, kid? Donât you have video games you should be playing?â
âI was just wondering when you know, I could learn to ride?â
I turned to him, eyeing him. âYou want to learn to ride?â
âYeah well, I want a bike.â
âAnd your motherâs okay with that?â
He stared down at the floor and we all smiled at each other. âI thought so.â
I patted him on the shoulder. âLook kid, Iâll teach you to ride.â
âYou will,â his eyes looked up at me, full of hope. Something stirred inside of me, the kid reminded me of who I was and all the possibilities that lay before me as a kid. âBefore I do that I need you to finish school.â
âBut I graduate in six months!â
âThen in six months weâll talk.â
âCome on, Vin!â
âYou heard me.â
I ended the conversation just as Crow came up to us. Weâve got company. We could easily spot the piggies as they walked in, the one in the middle couldnât get his eyes off my woman. My hold tightened on the glass until it cracked. Digger leaned back and smirked.
âWhich oneâs her husband?â
âThe puny one in the middle.â
âThey really think that they could just come in here as if no one would notice them?â
âApparently.â
I sneered as I watched them. It didnât surprise me that theyâd come in tonight of all nights. It was a Friday night at the Clubhouse and it was crawling with Prospects, other members, Hang-arounds, and tons of patrons who liked to take a break on the weekend after a long day of work.
The blonde one, with the beard, was Gingerâs husband, He looked smug as he stared up at her. Ginger looked back at me, worry in her eyes.
Donât worry, baby girl, he ainât gettinâ near you.
Weâd been expecting them. Digger had grabbed feel from several different security cameras along the highway and heâd spotted them about an hour away. It had only been a matter of time. I hadnât informed Ginger, so she wouldnât get scared, but either way I could see how anxious she was.
Digger turned to me. âWhat do you want to do?â
I lifted the glass and took the last shot of whiskey. âI feel like being entertained. Letâs see what they do.â
âYou sure thatâs a good idea?â
The brothers were on edge, and I nodded over at Poe whoâd just sat at the bar, a few feet away from them. Reaper was in a chair at the far right corner, his girl on his lap.
